I received a call from my Step-Father Doyle one night saying that he was at the ER with my mom. He told me that she had started asking random questions over and over again and decided he needed to get her to the ER quickly. She was admitted to the ER. The doctors initially thought (without any testing) that she might have had a stroke. So I rushed to the hospital to see her.
By the time I arrived at the hospital the doctors had given her the diagnosis of "global amnesia" and were looking for a cause. I sat with my mom for about an hour. It turns out that she had lost about 2 weeks of her memory. I would quiz her on things and she would look at me puzzled. Most of you know that my mom is super forgetful and a little on the "ditzy blonde" side but this was super scary. About two hours after I arrived the doctors decided to admit her for overnight observation and some more tests.
The hospital staff was wonderful. They let Casey, Doyle, Nate and I stay until the wee hours of the morning. It was good to see that she was okay and that only her memory had been affected. I went home at about 3am and returned the next day. My mom was in the process of getting ready for an EEG and she let me shoot a photo.
All the testing that was done (blood, EEG, EKG, MRI, CAT scan, Echo, ultra-sound) never produced a reason for the episode. I hope we never have to go through that again.
By the end of the 2nd day my mom had regained all but about 5 hours of her memory back. It was an interesting phenomenon and I am so glad that my mother was ok. I don't know what I would do without her.

Oh sad, I'm glad she's going to be ok. Your mom is such a funny person.
